The location marks the interface between 19th-century living on the water on one side and the extended 'Handelskade' (Trade quay), characterized by the aqueduct and the railway, on the other.
An office building has been designed for the Wilgenbos-Achterhakkers area, the former Van der Weesterrein in Dordrecht. The building is part of a comprehensive development plan, consisting of two office buildings and thirty homes with an underground parking garage. The industrial character of the location served as the starting point for the design.
The former industrial environment and the dynamic orientation on the railway bridge, shipping on the Oude Maas river and traffic connection of the Dordrecht city center characterize this location on the water and the position of this office building in particular. Its modern-business appearance reflects the transparency and movement of the water in the climate façade, the masonry façades create a relationship with the characteristics of the old and new residential buildings in the area.
Extensive optional uses form the basis for the design of this office building. Flexibility in various office concepts and an efficient approach to support structure and installations ensure a future-oriented building. A conical column has been specially developed for this design which is capable of supporting a floor area of ??3600 x 7200 mm. Switching these elements generates a strip of offices. By placing two strips apart, a central zone is created with space for special functions such as an entrance, a restaurant, meeting rooms and concentration workplaces. The façade consists of transparent and translucent parts and makes the character of the construction visible. By applying a climate façade, climate requirements are met.
