In the heart of Prinsenbeek, a residential care centre has been established, offering a wide range of housing options and facilities for elderly people requiring care. The redevelopment and utilisation of this relatively large site in such a central location were achieved in close consultation with the municipality, care providers, local committees, and residents. The variety of housing forms is reflected in the diversity of building volumes and aesthetic variations.

A Diverse Environment Providing Varied Care

The new residential care centre in Prinsenbeek provides space for diversity in care. The care centre is located in a varied environment. On one side of the site lies the bustling activity of the Markt and Hoofdstraat, while on the other side, there is tranquillity at the cemetery surrounded by greenery.

New Constructions and Renovations

A combination of newly built and renovated buildings provides accommodation for residents with varying care needs. The three-room apartments offer not only light care but also specific care in three living groups, each with eight client rooms. In this environment, residents experience in a pleasant way that they still play a meaningful role in society, while the neighbourhood, thanks to the available facilities, is drawn into the care centre.

Integration of Old and New

During the development process, the client acquired the old town hall and part of the monastery, which were integrated into the plan. These structures have been preserved, ensuring a seamless transition from "old to new." To emphasise this integration in the materialisation, considerable thought was given to the choice of bricks. The bricks hold a distinctive character in Prinsenbeek. Those from the old cemetery wall and the monastery served as the foundation for achieving a unified perception of "old and new."

Through the involvement of the architect and respect for the historical buildings, the new residential care centre has been warmly embraced by the community of Prinsenbeek.
