Beatrix Hospital

Hospital, Gorinchem

A professional, modern and welcoming hospital for patients, employees and visitors

A modern hospital that has integrated the Planetree philosophy. This philosophy focuses on the human aspect of the patient. A registration desk that resembles a hotel reception desk and doctors who visit their patients. A warm, welcoming and flexible hospital.

Professional, small-scale and people-oriented: these are just some of the core qualities of the Rivas Zorggroep [Care Group]. Care that is based on the Planetree principles, which places the human aspect of the patient at the heart of care. The Beatrix Hospital, part of the Rivas Zorggroep, has undergone a rigorous renovation whereby these core qualities have been translated into a modern, welcoming and flexible hospital.

Planetree

The Beatrix hospital was built in the 1980s. It was outdated and after twenty years, was in need of revitalisation. The organisation used this opportunity to implement the 'Planetree philosophy'. This is an organisational model that focuses on the patient as a human being. The model is reflected in the use of colour, daylight, sound and greenery. All these elements create surroundings that are as pleasant and familiar as possible for the patient as well as the employee.

New build and renovation

The central hall is the most eye-catching part of the large-scale renovations, but certainly not the only one. A new OR complex was constructed, every outpatient clinic has been renovated, 55 day care units have been added and better integration of the Accident and Emergency room and the GP surgery has been implemented.

Welcoming and warm

Hospitality is at the heart of the newly built Beatrix Hospital. This becomes evident as soon as you reach the entrance hall. A light, open space with warm colours and a registration desk that looks more like a hotel reception desk. The outpatient clinics are also focused on patient-friendliness. There are no waiting rooms here, but consulting and treatment rooms where the doctor visits the patient instead of vice versa. And because the combined day treatment/OR complex is directly connected to the reception area in the central hall, this treatment area has the appearance of a luxury private clinic.

Flexibility

'The New Way of Working' creates a great deal of flexibility. The consulting and treatment rooms are mostly identical, so can be universally used. This is also true for the ORs. The basic equipment and dimensions are the same everywhere, so that almost all specialisms can use every OR. The renovated building can also respond to a shift towards more ambulatory care.

Continuity

The schedule was divided into eighteen phases and each phase saw simultaneous building work being carried out at various locations of the hospital. Continuity was safeguarded during ongoing work. Because the hospital continued operating as usual, this required intensive fine-tuning with regards to the user. The public central hall is the logistic hub from where almost all departments can be accessed. Many temporary measures were needed in order to allow the stream of visitors to flow smoothly.
