Prison village Haren (Belgium) competes for the WAF award Future Projects - Civic Buildings. The festival celebrates global architecture with lectures, presentations and an award ceremony. The prize winners will be announced on December 5th.
Haren Prison Complex is an innovative prison village with various smaller and pleasant-looking buildings that differ in terms of size, shape and materials. The innovative concept focuses on a humane environment that facilitates mutual social interaction during detention and prepares detainees for reintegration into society. EGM, together with Belgian B2Ai, designed the prison village for Consortium Cafasso commissioned by the Federal Buildings Authority in Belgium. Construction started at the beginning of this year.
The World Architecture Festival has been around since 2008 and has grown into a three-day event with around 50 speakers and many presentations. This year the award has nominations from 70 different countries. During the festival, nominees will present their design, after which an expert jury will announce the winner. More information about the architecture festival can be found on the World Architecture Festival website.
