The District Office Leidschenveen-Ypenburg is a special project. Not only because of its multi-functional design, but also because it is a very environmentally-friendly and energy efficient building. The building, visible from the A12, has a highly distinctive mark: perched atop the roof is a chimney in the shape of a stork. This "chimney cowl" system enables the building to ventilate naturally for 85 percent of the year, without the help of energy. The complex houses public and official functions for the district office, as well as the police station, fire station and commercial rentals.

The floor plan gets its shape from the plot of land on which it sits. The district office is located on the residential side of the building and has a brick façade with elegant steel balconies, matching the scale of the building to the scale of the (future) residential buildings in a friendly manner. The building, together with the high window openings created by the façade, gives the impression of a chic structure that could function as either an office or a residential building. The police station is located on the highway side and has a double façade. The glass wall, which serves as noise barrier in front of the brick façade, is built up with vertical blinds and joins the district office and the police office into one whole. The District Office Leidschenveen-Ypenburg was declared the winner of the Best Practice Award – Healthy in 2008.
