EGM architecten has participated with its plan for an innovative sliding to a public competition of ideas for the Prince Claus Bridge in Dordrecht
The city of Dordrecht wants the slow traffic bridge to connect the development site Stadswerven North with the historic downtown. In addition, the design quality is to strengthen the vessel on both sides of the bridge. History and innovation were important themes for the new bridge.
EGM goes into its plan of a design that offers unobstructed views and the beautiful skyline of Dordrecht not disturbed. This is sustainably translated into a minimalist horizontal element on the underside reflects the surface. As a result, the bridge is part of the environment.
The 120 meter bridge consists of two horizontal parts which are located relative to each other in a slight bend. The kink in the connection and the choice of a high quality and hybrid construction, the possibility arises partly movable to maken.De combination of optimal integral technology and durable materials, resulting in an understated and elegant connection.
The typology of the movable part, the sliding bridge, in this shape and size is unique to the Netherlands. The part of the deck from the North Head is a distance of 30 meters by the fixed bearing part pushed the Stadswerven. As a result ontstaateen wide fairway for shipping.
The fixed bearing portion of the bridge extends at the level of the junction of both parts slightly. This creates a lookout point with a wonderful view over the three rivers and the skyline.
