IFHE World Congres 2016

Knowledge-sharing for better care around the world

On Monday April 18, 2016 the NVTG IFHE World Congress 2016 was kicked off at the World Forum in The Hague. Under the theme ‘Sharing knowledge for better care worldwide’, national and international speakers shared their knowledge of innovative technology in the care sector with hundreds of visitors working in the care sector.

Willemineke Hammer, partner and architect at EGM architects, was one of the guest speakers. Together with Liesbeth van Heel, programme secretary of the new Erasmus MC, she presented the Erasmus MC. Their presentation, entitled ‘a medical city in a city’, explored in depth the project process from design to the eventual completion of the hospital, which is located in the very heart of the city of Rotterdam (the Netherlands).

The construction of the biggest university medical centre in the Netherlands was and is in every respect a logistical challenge, in which vision, collaboration and perseverance come together.

Guided tour

On Wednesday April 20, some ninety visitors came for a peek behind the scenes at the new Erasmus. In addition they also visited the Reinier de Graaf Hospital in Delft, also recently completed and designed by EGM. For EGM, co-organizer of the two tours, it was a fine opportunity to share their care projects with an international audience.

Sharing knowledge for better care

As care changes, technology acquires an increasingly important position. Healthcare is changing rapidly due to the influence of an ageing population, limited availability of fossil fuels, new technologies and the role of new media. The Dutch Association for Technology in Healthcare (NVTG) strongly emphasizes these socially relevant aspects of care.

The congress was organized by NTVG and the IFHE (International Federation of Hospital Engineering).
