The Radboudumc has been at the forefront of shaping the healthcare of the future for decades. Thanks to its state-of-the-art research building, which fosters knowledge exchange and facilitates efficient workflows, the institute is able to make groundbreaking discoveries. The Radboudumc Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS), one of the medical center's three research institutes, is a key driving force in this.

In the Radboudumc Research Tower, research laboratories of the University Medical Centre are combined. The building houses, among other things, the Radboudumc Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS), and is the place where various disciplines, such as biochemistry and molecular biology, can collaborate excellently under one roof. The tower, designed by EGM in 1989 as a research center and logistics hub for the hospital, is now given a completely new face on the central square (Geert Groteplein) with the new entrance pavilion.

New Entrance Pavilion

The new entrance is a real eye-catcher in the heart of the Radboudumc campus. With glass all around, it has a transparent and open character, a truly inviting place for meeting. The new outdoor space, part of the central campus square, will seamlessly connect with this, also with plenty of seating and space for meeting. The entrance is located where there used to be a pond and temporary units. Now it forms a whole with the square and is the 'roof' of the CSA/CSD department that is being realized underneath. The design thus makes the most efficient use of the available space.

New building for CSA and CSD Department

At the Central Sterilization Department and the Central Scope Disinfection (CSA/CSD), reusable medical devices are cleaned, checked, assembled, packaged, sterilized and released for use in the hospital according to the highest quality standards.

Both departments are located below the entrance and the front garden. Through long skylights and a sunken patio, plenty of daylight enters, creating a pleasant workspace. Together with the integration of the most innovative technologies, there is so much attention to the sustainable employability of the people.

Thanks to the technologies and the right working climate, we are realizing the most modern CSA/CSD in the Netherlands.

Mark Cox, Director of the Project Office for Construction Affairs at Radboudumc

Compact green campus

The renovation, construction and redesign of the square are part of the Masterplan that EGM drew up together with Radboudumc. The reorganization of the campus is central to this, where care, education and research have a place, and are clearly and visibly connected to each other. The new main building, the renovation of the Education Building (now Experience Center) and the new green park-like landscape are also part of this plan.

Mark Janssen, involved in this construction project from the Executive Board, expressed his pride that with this entrance all core tasks literally come together. “Four entrances, all leading to the heart of our campus. The entrance of our main building, where care takes place. That of the Study Center for our education. The entrance of the Experience Center where innovation is all about. And the renewed entrance of the Research Tower for research.”
