International three-part series

Sustainable and Green Building Design

A trilogy is published around the theme Sustainable & Green Building in which numerous projects of various architects are covered including Vlietland Hospital and CO2-free buildings. About the CO2-free buildings
“The three buildings have flexible layouts and provide room for their own identity and character. New façade technologies, CCA and LED lighting reduce the energy use by about 45% and reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 80%. Cooling and heating storage and installations for generating solar power and wind power make the building energy neutral. Developer and building manager, Ericis adviseurs & managers, calls this form of sustainable development “Positive Building”. The high quality, technology, image and comfort leads to a new generation of working environments, ready for a long and valuable life.” About the Vlietland Hospital
“At the heart of the building lies the central hall with its friendly wood-lined interior. Here, similar to the other waiting rooms, large prints of Rotterdam’s harbors and surroundings are decorating the walls. On the outside, the building is coverd with dark ceramic tiles, while inside the walls take on a remarkably fresh color pallete ranging from lemon yellow to salmon to orange. The building’s technical infrastructure provides plenty of flexibility for the long-term and, therefore, possibilities for customization. The integrated concept a landscape, building, engineering and interior had blended proportionally to create a hospital with the right balance between a healing environment, flexibility, scale and experience. The Vlietland Hospital took home the 2010 NVTG Construction Award in the category ‘Cure’“ Sustainable & Green Building, Vol.1; Office & Commercial, (272 pages)
