2024 is a momentous year for EGM. We are celebrating the bureau's 50th anniversary, looking back at the past, reflecting on our present, and looking forward to the future.
To mark the anniversary, there was a fantastic office excursion to the vibrant city of Bordeaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a rich history and incredibly diverse character - something for everyone. Naturally, attention was paid to the famous wine region with its vast chateaus, the city was explored both culinarily and architecturally, and various cultural activities were visited.
Surprising urban renewal, technical marvels, a beautiful old town where, it is said, Haussmann found inspiration to rebuild and beautify Paris. Trams without overhead lines, haute cuisine, the Cité du Vin, impressive developments around the ports and rivers, the city has much to offer. There are whispers that the rich nightlife was also explored...
The chateaus of various large wine houses were visited, where knowledge of terroir, vignoble, viticulture, winemaking processes, wine marketing, and of course, dégustation were discussed. To round things off, a boat trip with lunch was organised on the Bassin d'Arcachon, where the taste buds were amply catered for.
A delightful, sun-drenched break from work, from which everyone returned refreshed. A powerful experience, and much richer for the new impressions.
