Chico Leufkens, architect at EGM architects, is one of 575 artists selected to exhibit his work in the Rijksmuseum. The Amsterdam museum challenged everyone to submit a work of art inspired by Rembrandt for the exhibition Long Live Rembrandt. It is 350 years ago this year Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) died, which is why the museum wishes to honour the artist even more.
In addition to his work as a project architect, Chico frees up as much time as possible for his other passions: making music, acting and painting. His painting Kampwacht measures 1.2 x 1.0 meters and draws inspiration from the Night Watch. It is a family portrait he painted a few years ago for one of his brothers, which he worked on for four months.
The call from the Rijksmuseum resulted in more than eight thousand submissions from 95 countries. After two selection rounds led by an expert jury, the exhibition opened last Monday, Rembrandt's birthday. The exhibition is on display until the 15th of September in the Philips Wing of the Rijksmuseum.
EGM is quite proud of our creative jack-of-all-trades and therefore congratulates Chico on his fenomenal achievement.
