The terrain Schakenbosch Noord on the edge of Leidschendam is being redeveloped for an intramural orthopaedic treatment centre for youth with a mild mental handicap. The redevelopment includes provisions for accommodation, care, leisure and education. Resolve, security and non-harassment measures are important preconditions to take in order to create an environment where clients can feel safe and at home for several months. The site originally had a private character, surrounded by a river, canals and nature. On the southeast side of the central axis, a large and a small residence building will be built with a therapy building in the middle. This building will havea sculptural section and forms a recognisable entrance to the square with four stories. The large residence building and the therapy building will surround a large, enclosed, safe and orderly exterior.

The need for individually distinctive spaces in the residence buildings is reflected in the variation of wall format, in zoning maps, colour and material choices and the interior. Shape, floor plans, façades and interiors of the two residence buildings are strengthened by the closely related visibility. Differences between the residence buildings and the treatment building are strengthened by building height, colour of the brick work and façade rhythm. This creates a clear complex where domesticity, individuality and safety go together.
