Van Hogendorp primary school

The classrooms are designed with spaciousness in mind

The school complex is a multifunctional building for the education department of the Municipality of Vlaardingen. Apart from the school function, this building can also be used for other purposes, now and in the future. The two parallel wings on the Van Hogendorplaan each accommodate eight classrooms. Between these two components a floating section on the first floor holds two large play areas.

The classrooms are designed with spaciousness in mind. The wide staircase to the first floor can beused as a central stage for schoolperformances as well as for external use. The building opens itself up to the green space around it and has the shape of a bayonet. The façade is constructed in burgundy red brick with dark morter. The brick is then reflected in the interior of the hall creating a solid counterweight to the surrounding gray weathered yellow brickbuildings, which are common in the area.
