On Thursday September 29th the building will be officially opened by Kajsa Ollongren, alderman and deputy mayor of Amsterdam. EGM architects was responsible for the design of the sustainable laboratory building.
A concept unique to the Netherlands
Instead of choosing a classical faculty based approach, the O|2 building is designed to accommodate a specific research theme, where scientists collaborate cross-institutional on research themes. The O|2 building on Amsterdam's south axis is a multifunctional building, where students and scientists can develop and share knowledge in a stimulating environment.
The building forms an important link in the campus development of the University Amsterdam and the VU Medical Center, and houses more than 850 researchers and master students working together on important social issues in the field of Human Health & Life Sciences.
Besides laboratories and educational facilities, the building also contains meeting and catering functions.
