Official opening Midden-inn

Independent housing with care facilities, in the centre of Heerjansdam in use

The finishing touches have been made and the keys handed over, marking the end of construction of Midden-Inn, a residential care facility in the centre of Heerjansdam. The official opening of the centre, designed by EGM Architects, was celebrated on Friday 1 April 2016.

In the first weekend of April, Midden-Inn was officially opened by Woningbouwvereniging Heerjansdam, Aafje, the Stichting Welzijn Ouderen Zwijndrecht and Stichting Welzijn Senioren Heerjansdam. Visitors could take a look around the building and learn all about the activities that will soon be available at Midden-Inn. The residential care centre consists of 36 apartments, a multipurpose space and a general space on each floor.

During the official opening, the name of the building was also revealed: Midden-inn. This is a reference to a cosy lodge and to the central position occupied by the building, both physically (it is located in the middle of the village) and as an excellent meeting point for the surrounding community, putting the residents in the middle of society.

Architect John Mol: "This highly transparent and playful building receives plenty of natural light, making it feel spacious and airy. In addition, there are spaces for daily activities, therapy, relaxation and events. As a result, there is lots of interaction with the village."

The residential care centre in the heart of Heerjansdam (a small town close to Rotterdam) was completed at the start of this year, and the first residents have already moved into the centre. This future-proof residential building offers people who need limited care the opportunity to continue living independently in safe and secure surroundings. Thanks to high-quality technical facilities, residents can continue living in the apartments if their care needs increase.
